Question:
Unexplained rash on face

Has anyone else experienced this? I have used different makeup about 3 weeks ago but I usually can use almost anything. It itches and kind of looks like hives. I have noticed a few bumps for about a month and just thought my skin was dry so I used a rash cream last night and woke up looking terrible.    — bikermama (posted on August 3, 2008)

I wouldn't use anything for a couple days until you clear up. Try using a hypo-allergenic moisturizer like Almay. I have been using bare minerals for a couple years and no longer have any break-outs. You don't have to spend alot on it tho. Many brands have a mineral powder now, such as Loreal and Cover girl. Also, you may have come into contact with something you are allergic to. I think if it was the make-up you tried several weeks ago, you would have had these symptoms then. Good luck!

Sounds like an allergy...but for stuff like this, it's best to let a doctor look at it.

I have felt at times like a teenager again. I've been breaking out from makeup and moisturizers I've used for years. I was told that after a big weight loss, your body's chemistry can change for awhile, and it can effect how your skin reacts to things. Also, your body is getting rid of toxins it has stored up, and that can cause it too.

I can so relate as I am prone to this very thing if I use anything on my face with fragrance. Use some cordizone cream to clear it up and be very careful not to use any product on your face with fragrance in it. I use Clinique exclusively (moisturizer and foundation) because of this. Good luck!

If it got worse last night, my guess is that you had some sort of reaction to the rash cream. As far as the itching/hives thing, it could be an allergy or sensitivity to make-up, lotion, or laundry detergent... you can have an allergic reaction to something you've been using before. Some people get hives when they are stressed. It could be dry skin, eczema, rosacea, acne, and many other things. I would suggest making an appointment with your doctor. Benadryl and Claritin will help with itching (even if its not an allergy). Avoid hot water and cosmetics. A paper towel or wash cloth wet with cool water might help. If you think its dry skin, Cetaphil makes a very gentle face wash and lotion. Most stores will sell a less expensive generic version. If you haven't used it before, it might be a good idea to put some on the inside of your elbow and wait a bit to make sure you aren't allergic to it. Good luck to you!

I feel like I'm going through my second adolescence with the acne that has popped up on my chin. I seldom broke out as a teenager though... would ocassionally get that 3rd eye zit that would never go away....of course it would pop up before my senior prom! But seldom broke out like I am now. I started reading about being over 40 with acne....I'm nearly 41 now...and if it's acne...or acne cysts... one's that never come to a head...that are under the skin...they say to use a treatment with salicylic acid/or alpha hydroxy acid in it. I had very dry skin in the winter months following my surgery....but no acne like I have now. I'm using Neutrogena's acne stress control products and low and behold... acne is way better. However, I am consulting with a dermatologist here soon.... because I need a mole check anyway...and because I just think it's a precaution I need to take in case I am using the wrong products. Here in MN, derm's are hard to get into..so appts. are way out.... I'd do your best to get into one...to make sure you're not experiencing an allergic reaction..or have something like fifth disease... my 63 old sister just recovered from that.... and still has an itchy rash. Wishing you all the best.....and just wanted you to know...I think this surgery is wonderful....but there are some wild body changes happening...that's for sure! Hugs......Cheryl
