Question:
I have Cigna POS how hard is it to get approved?
I have Cigna POS and I called and they said it is covered but only a medical necessity. I asked if there was any exclusions from my employer and they said "no". I have dieted off and one for several years but never with a doctor's assistance (too expense). So now I have an appointment with a PCP to get the 6 months of diet program that they told me I need to have. Any assistance from anyone that has been down this road would be great. — kendall (posted on January 18, 2006)

Sometime when a insurance company says Dr assisted, it just means that your
Dr was keeping track and you weighed in during office visits. I was alble
to list all the diets I had done for 7 years. How much I lost and regained
ect. That along with office notes that showed I was obese consistantly was
enough. Try writing everything down. Like I did Dr Phil's program, Weigh
Down- a Christian based program, Weight Watchers, Atkins etc. You will be
surprised how many you have probably tried. They needs dates etc. That will
help you.

Kendall...I have Cigna and the required 9 months too. Cigna wants very
specific documentation from your PCP. I learned this the hard way when I
was denied because my PCP didn't document it right. I suggest you call and
ask for the specif things they want documented in writing! Some of the
things I had to have every month are:
1. Evaluation & treatment plan at the beginning
2. weight loss diary including regular monthly weigh ins
3. Evidence of exercise program
4. Nutritional Analysis (This is proof that you talked about certain diets
and heathly eating patterns etc.)
Another important thing to remember is that the 6 months have to be
consecutive! If you miss a month plan on starting over.
Wish me luck, I just completed my second round og PCP dieting and am in the
process of writing my appeal. I wish you luck! Remember call the insurance
to get exactly what they want from you!!!
