Question:
I have mild aortic valve insufficiency and im scared to death to have my WLS
Hi my name is Heather and im 23yrs old. I just found out i have mild aortic valve insufficiency right before christmas 2009. I just had my consult with Dr. Chua on Jan. 22, 2010.. And now im just waiting for my insurance to approve the surgery. Im scared to death of not waking up because of this heart condition even though my cardiologist gave me the clearance for surgery with low risk. Im going to be having the realize band if my insurance approves it. Now here is my question. Has anyone had the realize band done with this heart condition called mild aortic valve insufficiency? If so was there any complications? — heathernbob2006 (posted on January 29, 2010)

Hi, if there was a serious risk your Cardiologist would not give you
clearance for surgery. I experience atrial fibrilation and am on medication
for it. I had to have clearance from my cardiologist as well and I spoke
with him frankly about my fears. I had the full gastric bypass and he
assured me the heart problem would not be an issue. I would recommend
getting a second opinion to assure yourself the risk is minimal. Good luck
on your journey!

I had gastric bypass (RNY)..along with hiatal hernia repair ..removal gall
bladder all done on the same day....I am 59 years old with aortic
insufficiency and had no problems...As long as the cardiologist
approves...make sure to tell your gastric doctor to speak to your
cardiologist prior to and the day of day of surgery ...Good Luck!!!
