Question:
Any diet or excercise tips for losing 10 - 15 lbs by June 18
My surgeon told me that I need to lose 10 - 15 lbs by the next time I see him which is June 18. Does anybody know any meal plans or exercises that would help. I used to do the treadmill then I would get a pinch in my lower back and it would feel like it was going to crack in half. I also have some hip problems. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. He said the insurance (Aetna) probably wont approve if I don't lose on my own. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on April 24, 2009)

We get this question about every other month. I had the same situation with
my insurance. All I did was what we've always heard - cut down on calories
and move more. I followed a pretty strenuous diet which I got from Food
Addicts Anonymous. They cut out all sugar, wheat and flour. You don't have
to overexert yourself in exercise. Walking and just moving more will do it.
Good luck.

Maureen pretty much said it...Cut calories, especially carbs for quick but
short term weight loss...and do as much exercise as you can to burn
calories faster...Do yoga or pilates type floor exercises...lift hand
weights (use can's of soup or jugs of juice if you don;t want to buy
any...but do it!....and stretch often, standing even burns more calories
than sitting...Good luck!

Maureen gave some really good ideas. The Overeaters Anonomus has a good
diet. So does WW. Try to get a diet that is well balance in that you get
your vegies, fruits, and anything that will give you the proper nutriton.

For exercise, try water aerobics. It supports your body weight, is easy on
your joints and your back, you don't sweat, but because you use the water
as resistance, you will burn calories, gain muscle, and increase
metabolism... and it's actually fun.

I lost 22 pounds in the 7 weeks pre-op time I had between surgical
consultation and surgery. I did not follow a specific diet just reduced
overall calories and started exercising. I agree with all of the above
suggestions and would add that I started keeping a food diary. Just writing
down what I ate helped a lot on losing weight during that pre-op time. I
was trying to establish the habit of writing down what I ate and exercised.
I swam for exercise and walked when I couldn't get to the pool. I have
continued the diary (actually I keep it online so I don't have to add up
the calories and protein grams myself) I just went to my surgeon and was
able to give my average caloric intake and protein grams per day for the
prior 30 days since I had been to the office. This helps me be accountable
to myself and to my surgeon on how well I am following his guidelines.
You can do it. Kevin

i lost 8 lbs in 7 days pre-op on my drs (mostly) liquid diet...the
"liver shrinker" diet...slim fast shakes, sugar free jello,
chicken broth, 1/2 piece toast, string cheese and cottage cheese...and LOTS
of water...you have 6 weeks to lose 15 lbs...you can do it!
