Question:
HELP 8 days P-OP VSG have large amount of stool leakage when i pass gas

I seems that when i pass gas i dont even feel that i am passing stool with it. I dont mean a little skid mark either. I am scared that if it dont stop i will live like this forever. And i am 46 and will not live with pooping myself all the time. I am begining to regret the whole surgery now and am getting depressed as to what my life will be like for the future. Has this happened to anyother VSG patients before, and if so what and why do we fix it. I have no sensation that it has happened til i go to the ladies room to urinate and whammmo. HELP SOOO embarrassing to go online like this and ask such a ?, but i am desperateright now for answers.    — 2bethin62 (posted on February 19, 2009)

It should get better a little after starting mushy foods. I have heard people say "liquid in, liquid out". I haven't heard of it to your extreme, but hopefully when you get to start eating some foods it will be better.

Although I am still 2 weeks pre-op, the notebook my surgeon gave me covers all this stuff.... including the fact that you might have some loose stools or diahhrea for the first two or three weeks after surgery. His instructions are that it is okay to take a couple doses of immodium if necessary, but like in all things, moderation is the key. After you get a little farther out, they say that constipation is a major challenge... there are always little bumps in the road, but don't despair... you have done a wonderful thing for yourself, and if you need to wear pads for a few days, what is that compared to how healty and happy you will be for the rest of your life if you stick with your program? You can get past this, it's only temporary... don't despair!

Gail, The same thing happened to me. I had surgery on 11/4/08. It got better in a few weeks. When I started the soft foods stage, my bowels sort of regulated themselves. Hang in there and don't get down. You have been through a major surgery and your body needs time to adjust to the changes. You will experience some things that are different but they won't last forever. Just hang in there. I wore thin maxi pads just in case I had an accident. That way I didn't mess up my undies. You can email me directly if you want to talk to someone a little farther out than you. [email protected]

Dont worry, I had VSG as well and the same thing happened to me just as you said it happened to you. I promise it will go away. You are on a liquid diet right now and that is all your body has to work with, as soon as you start on your soft foods it will change. Right now your body is flushing alot of that fat right out of your body. If it makes you feel more better, perhaps you could where a depends, so you dont have accidents. I cant tell you how many times I threw away my clothes. I just didnt want to deal with cleaning up that mess.It will get better and wont last to much longer, then you will have to worry about constipation.

It's good you asked this question. Your not alone. Keep doing what your doing. Don't forget whatever meds you take you crush them up. Remember you have a new stomach. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.

That will go away very soon. Not to worry. You will be very glad very soon that you had this surgery.
