Diane, I feel you. I get that way as well. The thing is you probably are not getting enough fiber. I'm 4 months out and from time to time I mix some benefiber with a liquid or for example just this past week I took 3 benefiber pills and that worked the next day. I had been on the plane and was in pain and I knew it was gas --thanks God for engine noise and silent farts. I knew I needed to go but the bowel movement wouldn't come so I took the benefiber and had relief the next day. Also increase you water. Feel relief soon.

Take some Milk Of Magnisia(sp?). It is what our DR recomends. If it doesn't work after a couple of doses there is a perscrption that they can give that is a powder you mix with drinks that works pretty good also. Good Luck!

Do the milk of magnesia a good dose but if it doesn't work in 24 hours or you having pain in your stomach or nausea go to the doctor now.

I had the same problem and wound up having to go to the emergency room - I was in a lot of pain. I was given two enemas - one oil based, one saline based. It did the trick. I spoke with my surgeon shortly afterwards and he has me taking stool softeners twice a day and told me to drink two glasses of juice a day. So far I have been feeling good since then, and that was approx 1 1/2 months ago. Good luck to you and hope you find relief soon.

Hi Diane, you need to first call your surgeon and get some help right away to go to the bathroom if you cannot. That can be very dangerous if you cannot for a length of time. Once you get help you need to do something to help your bowels stay in the soft area. There is a product that just became over the counter called "Miralax". It a NON habitforming laxative. It has NO taste to it, it is a powder that you put in a drink. I used apple juice, and just a HALF dose, not a full dose. I take it when I get constipated. You can take it every day. It takes a few days for it to work, but it works really well. I would also perhaps use a fleet enema just to begin to clean yourself out. You have to get your bowels moving or your body will pay a dear price. Please call your surgeon, buy some miralax, drink water like crazy and exercise (this is really good for moving bowels) and use a fleet enema if you simply cannot get anything to move. Don't enema regularly, it is not good for you, but it is not painful and does help with some movement. Take care. Patricia P.

First of all you should contact your doctor and see at what point this could become an emergency rather an aweful inconvienance. If they say you can wait a few more days I highly recommend Miralax. It has been on the market as a prescription for awhile, but now has been released to buy without a prescription. It comes in a powder that you can mix with most liquids. This is actually the first product I have tried in 2 years that is tasteless and effective. Hope this helps!-Heather

I have had to learn what is right for me. I be sure to exercise & drink more than I was first recommended to drink (I get >80 oz day now) I use stool softener & laxative 3-4 a day, Benefiber once a day,and the thing that turned it all around for me, was ground flaxseed. It adds bulk, besides excellent supplement for Omega-3. I add it to my breakfast protein drink and find it fills me up & it takes awhile to drink it up because the little goodies at the bottom of the glass have to be scooped up with a spoon. It has a nice nutty taste. It is available from Hi Health & cheaper versions are at grocery store,in the natural baking area. Hope that this helps.

I had/have tne same problem. I took more fiber, which helped, but also still take three Colace every day, or it gets too hard and I get impacted. Call your doctor !
