Question:
Can anyone take me back to the basic? I need a list of what and what not to eat.

Can anyone take me back to the basic? Can anyone give me a rundown of what to eat and what not to eat. I really need a list. I think a list will help. Thanks. I had my wls about 4 months ago and I'm only down 53 lbs. I know that it has to do with food because i work out too much. I have moved to VA from Texas a month ago and I can't seem to get a hold of my doctor. He does not retun phone calls, email or anything and I can't go home any time soon. Can anyone give me a rundown of what to eat and what not to eat. thanks    — flubbyjohnson (posted on April 14, 2007)

Depends on which "basic" you want to go back to. I'm assuming since you are 4 months out, you want to go back to week 4- add new foods one at a time basic. This is cream of wheat or rice cereal 1-2 tbsp at a meal, lean meats (fish, tuna, chicken, turkey), soft canned fruits, soft cooked vegetables, low fat or nonfat cottage cheese (1/4 cup), dried beans and peas- navy beans, kidney beans, refried pinto beans, lima beans, lentils, split peas cooked without added fat until very tender, and cheese containing less than 5 grams of fat per ounce, mashed potatoes. REMEMBER: 70-80 grams of protein, avoid starchy foods like white rice, pasta, un-toasted bread, chew completely and slowly, add one new food at a time, choose high protein first. Also remember proteins are to be eaten first, eat slowly and chew foods well, eat 2-3 meals per day with 2-3 snacks daily, drink water between meals (at least 64 ounces or 2 liters per day minimum!) Avoid whole milk, avoid greasy or spicey foods, avoid carbonated beverages and alcohol and take your nutritional supplements. Hope this helps...good luck!

My surgery was 12/1/2006. You are down about the same as me. It's not "only" 53lbs.... try picking up something that heavy!! Congrats on that being gone. We all loose at different rates. It also depends on your weight before surgery. Someone who weighs 350lbs is going to loose more quickly than someone who weighs 250. (not sure where you started) Others already posted what foods to try. Good luck, hold your head up and be proud of your loss~! Robin

Along with making sure you are getting your water and prrotein in here are the 5 main things to stay away from: pasta, rice, bread, anything with sugar in the first 3 ingrediants and no fried food. Try that and see what happens. I am 7.5 months out and down 145lbs.

Hi Flubby, and thanks for asking your question. Sounds like you got the gamit of answers, but the basics are the basics, water, protein, exercise. Any list you make should come from you. You are responsible for what you put in your mouth, and you know what you like in the protein area. Drink lots of water, get your protein in, and I would encourage walking 2 1/2 miles twice a day to bump up your metabolism, that is how I took off 120 pounds, and all I can tell you is what worked for me. Losing weight is a full time job after surgery, it has to be important enough to make a priority. The choice is yours. Take care, Patricia P.
