Question:
Two Weeks Out: Protein is making me sick, will my hair fall out?
I just had surgery two weeks ago, and the protein supplements is making me nauseated. I am not losing any weight, and the NUT says it is because I can't take protein. What's worse, I am scared to death my hair is gonna fall out. Is that what causes the hair loss? — Candied (posted on April 19, 2010)

try to eat canned tuna and chicken also try eggs . I could not handle the
protein at first. It took me about 3 weeks to start protein shakes.I did
not have any hair loss.

Three weeks out I only had protein shakes, and some do make you ill. Try
Unjury or MaxProtein, so many made me ill. I too was very worried about
hair loss, so I found a shake I liked and I take biotin too. Thank God you
listen to your NUT.
Good luck

Google telegen effluvium for a full explanation of hairloss. Yes, it's
likely you will lose some hair because of the surgery but it will re-grow
when your diet stabilizes. You need protein for healing and formation of
red blood cells more than for hair replacement though. Try some plain,
greek yogurt. It's very high in protein. You can add SF Davinci or Torani
syrups and/or Splenda to sweeten it. You could also try some re-fried beans
thinned down with chicken broth. Chicken and beef broth are both good
sources of protein containing liquids; make it yourself for best flavor and
strain out the celery, carrot, and onion bits if you can't have solids yet.
And keep trying different brands of protein shakes. I didn't like them at
first either but eventually your tastebuds will adapt. I eventually found
that the Body Fortress brand at Walmart was the one I could tolerate. I
have a protein coffee every morning; my own faux vanilla latte. Hang in
there and do you best to get to that 60g daily protein goal as quickly as
you can. You will feel much better overall as well and will regain your
energy more quickly too. HUGS-Pat

Have you tried Unjury chicken broth protein drink? That could help, if the
sweetness gags you. They also have an unflavored protein powder. I would
suggest experimenting with various protein powders. There are a surprising
number of kinds. If you like coffee, there are coffee varieties. There
really is no choice. You have to get the protein some how. I eat protein
bars now instead of drinks but I am more than 3 months out.
Eggface.com has recipes for protein drinks. You can doctor them up with
decaf coffee, no sugar syrups or powdered baking cocoa. Vitalady.com has
samples you can buy. Sky.is yougurt has 22 grams of protein. Greek yogurt
is high in protien. Don't give up on finding a way to get protein.
At 3 and a half months, I haven't lost any hair.

SO I had the same problem after about the 3rd or 4th week, I was gagging on
anything milky. I just wasn't having it. As for your hair, it will thin
out anyways because you are not eating as much protein and fatty foods as
before so get ready. Like they said try Unjury it is milder than most and
it does taste great. I am 5 months out and just ordered some and I am so
glad. Oh by the way my hair is growing in thicker now. It did get a
little thin for a minute, but not too bad and I wear it very short. :-)
Try to eat yogurt and cottage cheese with fruit if you can stand it.
