I had the same problem and am not quite happy yet but I am 6 weeks post and
have continued to try different ones. I read the book "Before and
After" by Susan MAria Leach and there are some very good recipes in
there for protein shakes. You can also find them on her web site
"bariatric eating.com Hope that helps

I had the same problem. I have bought so many things, thinking ok, this one
will be different. When I went to my post op check up, I tried a sample of
the Bariatric Advantage Banana shake and it is wonderful. NO aftertaste, it
honestly takes like something we shouldn't be able to have and to top it
off it has 27 grams of protein, then add 6-8 ounces of milk, then it has
more! I cried when I tried the BA Banana protein shake, I was so
overwhelmingly happy I finally found something I could tolerate and would
not make me gag. I also have samples of the other flavors coming to try of
the BA. Please do yourself a favor and give it a try, if you do, use my
name as a reference, Elizabeth Nus. Good Luck!

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I have spent and wasted so much money
trying anything and everything. The ONLY protein I can drink is when I
take 1 bullion cube and 1 tablespoon of unflavored protein. It is only 8
grams though. I ordered Unjury chicken soup a couple days ago. It at
least has 20 grams. I may be drinking lots of chicken soup. Presently I
am not fulfilling my protein requirement, and I am concerned. I am really
trying though. I am 3 weeks post op. I hope that helps.

There is no protein pill, too bad cause I would love it. here is wht I had
to do because I had the same issues plus I could not drink any type of milk
rice, soy, non-dairy, etc... and I still can't. Here is what I ended up
doing. I got whey protein (the better protein, much better than soy) and I
made this... I got differnt juices, like strawberry/kiwi and got a bag of
frozen strawberries. I used french vanilla protein, juice, and frozen
berries and blended that and it made it much more tolerable, Oh and I used
half the amount of powder so it wasn't as thick. GOOD LUCK. -Jaime

I recently purchased a sample of the Unjury Chicken Soup and I was
surprised that it was really quite good! I am also going to try that BA
Banana. I also recently purchased a protein bullet at WalMart and it was
AWFUL!! I then went to GNC and purchased a blue raspberry New Whey protein
bullet and was delighted that that wasn't too bad either!

I totally know what you're talking about about the protein drinks making
you gag. I tried so many of them ;some I ordered on-line others I got at
GNC and even the big stores like Walmart & Sam' Club. I finally found
one brand on-line that I not only can tolerate, but I look forward to it.
R-Kane Products, Pro Cal Protein Drinks, they even have protein bars called
MINI MEALS (can you say "to die for?) that really give me energy and I
swear....they don't have that awful taste....they're delicious. I'm over a
year out and have lost 165 lbs and I still use the products. The shakes I
follow the instructions to mix and I add ice in a blender with
it...actually tastes like something we shouldn't be allowed to have.
There's a cappuccino one that if you mix it with water and a tiny bit of
splenda and ice cubes and put it in the blender....that's my answer to high
quality protein that doesn't give that awful after taste. Just google
R-Kane Products or Pro Cal. Also make sure you are getting your liquids
& vitamins in. I wish you all the luck in the world. Next year at this
time, you will be a different person with so much more energy ans in much
better health.

I had this same problem after surgery. Go to GNC and get the Isopure clear
protein drinks. They will save you. The Grape Frost was the best in my
mind. They are clear like KoolAid. Some folks think they have a little
after taste but I mixed mine with SF Grape Koolaid. The shots of protein
are good to - just don't drink them all in one shot- you will get nauseated
and very flushed and hot. I am talking about the 42 gms of protein shots
that come in a test tube container. Take half of one and mix with SF
Koolaid that matches the flavor you like. They totally saved me post op.
Good Luck! Maggie

As far as your arm being hurt, I have to tell you that the procedure is
often done on a tipped table, where you are practically having most of your
weight supported by your shoulders. That could explain your injury. Give
it time to heal.

OOOh Girl I am feeling your pain!!!!! I am a little over 3 months out and
still haven't gotten a shake down. I did Isopure, and even made popsicles
out of it to help. I still have trouble getting the protein down, but there
is a protein bar that is good, "PURE PROTEIN", Walmart sells
them. small ones have 20g of protein and the big ones have 32. Also the
"bullets" work, they are not the best tasting but they are only 3
ounces of fluid and I swallow them with a drink of water. I know you can't
have the bars yet but at least know there is help on the horizon. Also
there is a powder tasteless(sort of), I used that in the beginning and put
it in my chicken broth and decaf tea and decaf coffee.... bariatric eating
store carries that as well. Good Luck, I know you can do it, I did and I am
the worst picky eater person on the planet. Martha

i couldn't do any of those damn protien shakes. I ate food. Small bites,
well chewed. I lived. I had a DS. Started with scrambled eggs. Then
cheese, turkey, chicken,. Small bites, well chewed, throughout the day.

I had this problem too...for me it was the sweetener. It was sickening
sweet. I ordered unflavored unjury and chicken broth unjury from
Unjury.com...came right to my door and I mixed it in water, then I tried
milk and did that successfully for months, then when I got calorie
conscious I put it in flavored water (I prefer Nestles brand over others)
Unjury saved me! It comes right to my door every month and they are great!
I put it in home made puddings, sugar free, and everything!! Good luck to
you! It will get better! Hugs, kim

I found the protein shake by premier nutrition to be far superior to any of
those out there.
Here is a link to their website.

Thanks so much for the tip about the banana protein shake. This sounds
like something I can do. I have the grapefrost isopure and I have found
that if I dilute it half and half with water it is easy to keep down. The
Premier was good until I drank so much, now I put it in decaffienated
coffee and it is OK. But the best answer for me has been to just eat real
food. My nutritionist says that as long as I get the required amount of
daily protein from real food, I don't have to deal with shakes at all.

I use the slim fast high protein and if your doc says its okay I use the
creamy chocolate with flavoring, assuming yu like any of these, mint,
almond with anilla slim fast, banana with either, and coconut. I like the
coconut with chocaolate and the mint but not together. I also use whey
protein powder to pump up the protein but not the amount. hope you feel
better. Hang in there.
