Question:
I can't sleep at night since my RNY
I had RNY 6/3/09 and beginning with the night I came home from hospital I've been having major problems sleeping. It's 1:00 or 2:00 AM (last night nearly 4:00 AM) before I sleep. I feel this electrical feeling 'surging' thu me and I have to move. It's not just my legs like in restless leg syndrome..it's all over. I's not caffene as I'm off that. I don't want to have to start taking RX for sleep but I'm at my wits end. I work full time so there's no taking nap during the day. Anyone had/having this problem?? My doctor suggested Benadryl or an OTC pill of natural sleep aids neither of which have worked. — Kathleen F. (posted on July 1, 2009)

I had the same thing happen to me. It wasn't right after my surgery, years
later though. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and that was the first
symptom. I use Tylenol PM to help me sleep and it works good, without
feeling "drunk" the next day. Look up Fibromyalgia and see if
you have any other symptoms. By the way, Fibro isn't caused by having the
bypass, it is caused from they think years of stress the way your body
handles stress, or from a trauma;death in the family, or car accident, and
it can even be from surgeries, not the bypass, I started to get mine after
my mother in law and stepfather passed away (2 months apart), and I had to
have tumors removed. So check it out I hope you get some answers and if
you do have fibro get on meds right away or you won't be able to function.
If you want to please email me at my profile and I can help you further
with this. best wishes to you, hope to hear from you.

I had and still have the same symptom. I was told by my nutritionist that
that is often a normal side effect of having RNY. Some nights are better
than others, but I agree with the last post. Tylenol PM works great. Good
Luck!
