Question:
How long does it usually take to get a date for surgery

I have had my approval for 2 months and still no news for a date for surgery? I have spoken with the program manager every week and she has a different answer everytime I call... I feel like I've been pushed off, so should I take it a step further and go the the top where escaleted complaints go?    — mamous (posted on November 4, 2008)

I think it depends on the doctors schedule........I was had my pick of dates i was approved in October but I am waiting until Dec 5 this will give me the rest of the year off....I hope you get a date soon please dont give up you hvae come to far to stop fighting

I would definitely push the issue. A lot of times the approval from your insurance company is good for 90 days and if you don't have the surgery done in that time you may have to go through the approval process all over again.

I got my approval in a few days and it took a few mos to get a surgery date which ended up being some 6 mos late anyway. 5 years ago though, there were not nearly as many surgeons doing bariatric surgery...and my doc had people coming from several states away just to have WLS! It amazes me how fast you all are getting approved and operated on! I had almost a year to think about things...research and really get my head together...It was a looooooong, painful wait, but by the time the date go there....I was mentally ready and so certain I was making the right choice. But again...that was 5 years ago...I did have to call my surgeons office and ask for a date when I got to the point you are at... and they had it and just forgot to call me! So try calling and asking for the date first!

Personally, I would take my request higher up and register a complaint as well. If you have been calling every week for two months and talking to the same person and not getting a consistent answer then that would bother me. I would wonder what it would be like once I was post op and teying to get information. If after speaking to someone higher up I still wasn't satisfied then I would start looking elsewhere for a better organized program. This is all just my opinion. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the very best!

After I was approved, it only took about 2 weeks to get my surgery date. I would go over her head, it sounds like she is giving you the run around. That is crazy having to wait for 2 months and no date.....

It depends on your surgeon and how busy they are. I got approved in August 2007, got an appt with surgeon in Nov 2007 and was scheduled for surgery in Feb. 2008.
