Question:
Has anyone had a change with their thyroid after losing weight?

I am post-op Lap band Dec 19, 07 having lost 47 pounds. I just got home for the hospital for a A fibb heart arrhythmia. The doctor said my Thyroid seems to have reversed itself from hypo thyroid to normal or close to hyper. I was taking 75 mil synthroid which was too much. They had to shock my heart to get a normal beat and the doctor put me on betapace until the thyroid under control. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks alot!    — Linda L. I had a RNY 4 months ago and after two months I was off all 12 diabetic medication, but I still take 225 of Syntroid and unfortunitly it has not chaged for me. My A1C is 5.6 so it was a miricale for me to be able to get rid of the diabities. I also cam off last month all COlestrial medication and all blood pressure meds. Let me know how you do with the thyroid. Mine is a lot worse than yours, but I would love to see if not be as bad. Best of success to you.

Actually, I had just the opposite happen to me. Before WLS my thyroid was normal but 2 years after WLS I became hypothyroid and have to take synthyroid everyday.

I'm wondering for those of us who have had to up our thyroid meds...if it is truly our thyroid glands that are acting up or if in actuality it is malabsorption of our medication...thus making us need to take more to get the same result? I know I had to up mine since surgery 8 years ago. I just figured it was because of malabsorption. It's a thought. Regards~
