Question:
Has anyone with Med Cost in NC been approved for RNY?

A friend of mine is looking into having the surgery, but called her insurance yesterday and was told "NO" they will not cover it. Is there a way to get them to? I suggest she tal to her insurance company or go online and find out exactly what their clinical guidelines for approving the surgery are. Many companies refuse at first, until you jump through their hoops. for example, I had to go to my primary care doctor once a month for six months and document trying to lose weight (even though I had tried before under his care). I also had to go for a sleep apnea test, go to the cardiologist, get a psychological eveluation, get a colonoscopy and an endoscopy from the gaastroenterologixt, and document exercising. My insurance only covered if you were morbidly obese and had several comorbidities, like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, etc.
