Has anyone with Med Cost in NC been approved for RNY?

A friend of mine is looking into having the surgery, but called her insurance yesterday and was told "NO" they will not cover it. Is there a way to get them to? Has anyone else with Med Cost that lives in NC gotten approval? Any comments I can pass on to her would be helpful. Thanks. Stephanie
