Question:
Anyone have the tongue pierced after surgery???

My thinking is this; 1) I think tongue piercings are sexy 2) more importantly I'm thinking it will give me a replacement for an obvious oral fixation. What better time than on pain meds and off work for a few weeks? Will you think me too romantic if I let you know I compare it to old world sailors who pierced their ears after making it around cape horn (I think) to mark their journey and victory. Katie, I am 42 and free spirited, It is ok to have your tounge and anything else pireced at anytime, my son had his done, and I had my eyebrow done, but took it out when my dad visited. Pain pills are not toooo nessassary. Use your descression.

Katie, Please be careful. I am a dental health professional (dental hygienist) and have seen a tremendous amount of damage to the teeth and gums. I always inform my patients that it is a personal choice and I am about to admonish anyone for their decision. I advise using a shorter barbell and plastic balls. This will help minimize any future damage. Be careful and go for it: it is your choice.

I don't think. That you want to get your tongue done after your GB it will be just another thing that you have to deal with. I got my tongue done about 3 years ago. you have to take good care of it or else. so I say give it a month or two and then do it.

I had my tongue peirced about 1 1/2 years before surgery. They made me take it out for surgery, but my hole did not close and I was able to easily slide it back in on the 3rd day post op. I absolutely LOVE my tongue piercing!! I say, go for it if you want. You will be on liquids the first 2 weeks (well, my surgeon had us on that diet) which is good for the piercing to heal. I had trouble eating solids and actually lost 5 pounds that first week I got the piercing cause I couldn't eat very well. Swollen tongues don't help you chew well. So I think it would be the perfect time to get it done. Although , you may not feel up to it. Why don't you play it by ear and see how you feel. If you feel up to it, go for it. The pain meds will help also I would think. ENJOY!!

I have had my tongue pierced for about 2 years. I took it out for surgery. I feel more sexy with it now. I am 6 weeks post-op and have lost 50 lbs. I feel like I can be sexy with my tongue ring as I get used to my new body. Good luck-Dawn
