Question:
Can anyone speak to a NECROTIC ULCER w/o bleeding at anastomosis site?
10 mths post revision (but tht didn't touch roux limb) and now have "HUGE ulcer with necrosis". Dr. treating with prevacid, but now I'm told to NOT take calcium till healed because that can aggrevate it! I'm already osteopenic and on actonel. I'm concerned not taking calcium for three months will be bad. Any insights? Thanks. — Rebecca T. (posted on September 16, 2009)

I am 5 yrs post R-N-Y and i had a bleeding marginal ulcer at the
anastomosis site. this happened exactly 1 yr ago (sept. 08). i was
hospitalized for 6 days and many, many transfusions. i was treated with
protonix (2x a day) and something else. (i can't remember the name) that
other med i took for 3 months to coat the ulcerated area. i was
re-endoscoped and once the ulcer was healed i stopped the
"coating" med and now take the protonix 1x a day. i was told i
would have to be on protonix for the rest of my life. i am also osteopenic
but was not told to stop the calcium. in any event, i don't think not
taking calcium for 3 months will be that harmful. it takes a while for the
calcium to build up, it's a slow process. when i researched this marginal
ulcer, i found it's pretty uncommon.
