Question:
Anyone experience fatigue, dark circles under eyes, and dizziness?

I am a month post op and have been feeling really tired the last couple of days. I have dark circles under my eyes, and it doesnt matter how much sleep I get, I am still exhausted when I wake. I also was having problems with dizziness upon standing. I thought that my blood pressure might be too low so I stopped taking the blood pressure medicine this morning. My best friend had the surgery with me and she has not experienced any of this. I can admit that I dont think I am getting enough protein. I try to drink the shakes, but I am not very good at it when I am not working. Please let me know if anyone has experienced these problems or what it might be. Thanks!    — sweetipie38 (posted on March 14, 2009)

Hi...I am almost 2 wks post op & also have fatigue--so you are not alone. I would think you may not be getting enough protein & water/fluids. One word of caution...please DO NOT stop taking your BP meds without consulting your doctor!! My doctor stopped my BP meds while I was in the clinic post surgery (I have been on the BP meds for 15 yrs), but he held it since my BP was low post op. I was told to stop the medicine after discharge & although hesitant...I did stop it. Well...the day after I was discharged, I woke up with a rapid, irregular heartbeat & had to call 911...I was in AFib which is a heart arrythmia caused by abruptly stopping my BP meds & it took my heart 16 hrs to convert back to a normal rhythm after being in ICU...Please talk with your doctor & if needed, just slowly wean from your medicine!! Never just stop them! Hope you feel better & hang in there...we'll get thru this:) Hugs, Diane

Exaustion, dizziness on standing low bp, ...these are symptoms of dehydration. Are you drinking your 64 Oz minimum?

Yes, sounds like dehydration to me, too. And don't just stop taking your meds without checking with your doctor, first--that's as bad as self-medicating and can do more harm than good.

Fatigue is to be expected at 1 month out. You've had surgery and your body is beat. As for protein, it's not always possible to get it all in yet so don't beat yourself up. It took me 6 mos. to get to 50mg/day! Regarding the dizziness: after WLS there is often a balancing act that goes on concerning fluid and the inner ear. I suffered from it for the first year/year and half postop. Then it went. If you've eliminated dehydration and other causes this may be it.

Well, I could say a whole-lotta stuff. Get to your PCP as soon as you can. Did you or your doctor take you off you HBP meds? If you just topped taking them, you could be really damaging your heart and them some. I hope you take all of your daily vitamins too. You should see your doctor for blood analysis because that is the only way you will truly understand why you are not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon. Be good to yourself!
