Question:
Is Lumpiness in body tissue normal?
8 months post op with sagging breasts. I don't mind, but I notice lumpiness, I had not noticed before. I also noticed lumpiness in my legs and arms. Is this cellulite or "fat islands". I've had mammograms that came back normal recently. I also had implants 30 years ago (Dow Corning saline). I am 64 and 8.5 months post op, 86 lb weight loss. — Susan33324 (posted on March 13, 2007)

I found what my Dr. calls fatty tummors. He says that they are just fat
gone a little haywire. Nothing to be concerned about. Lucky for me the
big ones have all been either in my bra line or in my thighs so were
iratated by my bra or grandbabys standing on them so the insurance paid for
thier removal. I would talk to your Dr. to make sure that is what they
are. I do not remember what it cost to have them removed but it cannot be
to bad as it was done in his office.

Hi Susan, thanks for asking. I would think that what you have is normal
for your age and your condition, but you should ask your doctor. I think
if you had a single "lump" that was of concern that you would
have cause to think something, but it seems you have the same thing in
several sagging areas, and I just don't think that is too unusual for a
woman in her 60's that is losing so much weight at this point in her life.
I am 3 years post op now, and in my late 40's and have a pretty good deal
of sagging. I am a 4/6 in size, so most of my sagging is just skin, and as
you lose more weight, and tone it by exercise, you may lose some of that
lumpyness, but it wouldn't surprise me if you didn't. Sometimes the fat
cells just find a home and won't depart from it. Just for a chuckle, I
call my theighs my two charpea puppies, mut and jeff. I did have the skin
removed from my stomach, and am glad I did, but don't really want any more
skin removal. The idea is great, but the surgery is huge, even bigger than
the wls surgery, and so I don't care for any more of that. My husband and
I are fine with our new puppies and saggy skin. I am just glad he loves me
the way I am and I am very thankful to God for allowing all this weight to
go away. Take care, and best to you. Patricia P

I'd check in with your doctor if you are concerned. There is a type of
tumor called a Lipoma. Lipomas are smally fatty tumors. Some people elect
to have them removed, others don't. Since these tumors are not malignant,
removal is often considered to be cosmetic. If you've got the same
lumpiness in your breasts, legs, and arms, my guess is that is related to
the weight loss.
If you go see a doctor, they'll be able to answer your questions and you
won't even have to worry about it again.
