Question:
Cigna Open acesss plus, has anyone had them deny the surgery after 6 months diet .
In January my Dr's office was told Cigna Open access plus would cover the surgery after a 6 month supervised diet. I did this as well as psych eval and sleep study, ect. After 7months of preperation Cigna denied the surgery saying they no longer cover this surgery after July 1st. I was not notified of any change in coverage. I called Cigna and they said I never had coverage for this surgery from the begining, but my Surgeon's office has documentation they called and were told it was covered. I have jumped through all their hoops and now they tell me they don't cover the surgery. Has anyone had this happen of something similar? if so what did you do? I don't want to give up. — jlhnurse (posted on August 9, 2011)

When I had Cigna (I think it was Cigna Open-I had my surgery 2 years ago
and don't remember-insurance has changed), the company told me that wls
wasn't covered yet his employer told us it was. His employer gave the the
actual policy information that stated it. My surgeon immediately started
appealing it.
Good Luck.

It is RNY Gastric Bypass. They say no weight loss surgery is covered under
my plan. I have found out since that the company is self insured and Cigna
only administers the plan. I am appealing it,especially since I have been
through 7 months of preperation and now they say I can't have the surgery.
