Question:
How soon can I realistically plan to go back to school?`
Hi everyone! I finally have my surgery date and it is August 16th (RNY), classes start August 28th... I don't want to give up this entire semester, but wanted to know, do you think I'll be able to go to class 12 days post op? I believe I can talk to my professors and let them know what's going on, just wanted to hear from some post-op'ers ;) — Clumsybarbie (posted on June 27, 2010)

Teri: Absolutely you can return to school 12-days postop. I had sx
12/29/09 and elected to take up until 1/12/10 off. By day 3 postop and
home (not able to exercise yet and of course "eating" easn't an
option), I found myself literally going stir-crazy from lack of something
to do other than watch TV, read or sleep. Remember, your energy may be
lower than average initially and you will have to work at balancing the
intake of the correct nutrients as well as getting enough rest in order to
support your school ambitions, but assuming you have a textbook surgery
with no complications and you listen to every little nuance your surgeon or
NUT offers in your best interest than you are likely to do just fine. Best
of luck!

I would probably get a small back pack or suitcase that you can pull on
wheels because lifting is restricted after surgery to about 5 lbs.Even if
you get this you can't load it with very much. You will have to pack your
shake mix. They offer a ready to mix protein shake that comes in a small
bottle. Remember that you will have to take time to have your shakes and
water.Doing it too fast will make you sick.

I had my surgery on 5/29/09 and went back to class by 6/8/09. Normally
people are told to take 2 weeks off but I was ok so I went against medical
advice and was fine.
