Question:
Why can't I keep anything down?
Came home from hospital yesterday. Drank Carn. Instant Breakfast and 3popsicles. Must have overdone it. Immediately started dumping. Have kept a glass nearby now for going on 10 hours. Everything is coming back up. All I have tried to swallow in the last 10 hours is Loratabd liquid and crushed ice. Have filled a 16oz cup twice now and can't sleep. — NC21485 (posted on November 6, 2009)

Hi Nancy, What surg did you have done? Were your popsicles & Carn
Breakfast sugarfree? Did the Dr & NUT. give you the go ahead to have
all of that? Did you have this trbl while in the hospital? My Dr & NUT
told me to sip sip sip to get use to putting in very small amounts at a
time. When in doubt of anything my Dr's office was avail to call for ANY
questions I had. Best of luck..just take it slow...sip sip sip.

You don't say what procedure you had, but because you mention dumping I
assume RNY. Is it dumping or is it the liquids not going down and coming
back up?? Liquids have to actually pass through the stomach to cause
dumping. Sounds to me like you could be really swollen, or you already
have a stricture going on if you have an RNY. IF you have a lapband, you
could be really swollen because lapband patients don't generally dump.
Talk to your surgeon, he is the only one that can help you.

Thanks everybody. I had gastric bypass after having a lapband for 6 yrs. I
appreciate sip, sip, sip. With the band I could drink all I wanted.
Carnation instant was on my list but I realized too late I had drunk way to
large an amount. Went to ER this morning and xray showed no blockage. I
have been fine all day now. About to eat chicken soup, slowly!

You should still be on clear liquids. S/f jello, broth, caffiene free tea,
crystal lite, clear soup, etc. Start over and take it slow. I haven't
found a carnation ins, bft that is low enough in carbs and sugars myself.
When you can have full liquids, move to creamed, strained soup, yogert,
etc. There is a low carb slim fast that is high in protein, but kinda
hard to find. It is very low in sugar. Good luck. Hang in there. Do by
all means stay hydrated. If you don't you will get very weak and sick!

When I had my surgery, I wasn't able to have anything but clear liquids for
several days, then I had protein shakes, but they were and everything else
I ate was sugar free.
