Question:
Anybody have high white blood count not associated with infection?
I am on my 3rd round of antibiotics with no symptoms presenting other than high white blood cell count. I'm 5 months out, super morbidly obese, and loosing at a fairly rapid rate. Is it possible that my body is reacting to the "crud" being released into my body from fat cells breaking down? Anybody else experience this? I've got two stumped docs. — jtoothman (posted on July 27, 2009)

You do really need to talk to your doctor about this. Like the previous
poster just suggested, other things can cause an elevated white cell count.
It doesn't have to be infection. Once, during a lupus flare my white cell
count went astronomical. Now, keep in mind....for such serious illnesses
as leukemia or lupus you have to have an EXTREMELY high cell count. If
yours were that high then I am sure your physican would've taken other
action than just prescribing an antibiotic. So don't let us scare you to
death here. However, it sounds like you are having some questions that
only a doctor can safely and accurately answer. Don't be afraid to make
them slow down and have a good talk with you about your concerns.
