Question:
Bowel Movements

So i keep reading how everyone is constipated after surgery. I am 5 weeks out of LAP RNY. I seem to have small bowel movements several times during the day. Sorry if this is too much info! They are at times a little mucousy and loose. Is this just my body adjusting? Being constipated doesn't sound so bad right now!    — tammyB1976 (posted on September 20, 2008)

If you want good "regularity" try a good powerful "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA. You will get the same effect as a fiber supplement along with 12 vitamins and 65 ionic minerals. Has 1000 IU vitamin D3. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com

Hi Tammy, Yes that is just your body adjusting. Trust me you will have issues with the bowel movements. I had to start using Fibersure daily to get my bowels regulated. I tried stopping it for a while and then the bowel movements became very hard and painful once again so back to the fibersure I went. It will level out though at some point. Good luck!

Yep, Tammy, what you describe sounds very, very familiar. I thought as you did, but now that I have had constipation for some time now, I would caution wishing for some constipation. You might well get what you wish for. Hang in there!

Then went to plugged up about a month after that. starting taking benefiber once a day to get regular - been regular and have been since then. get enough fluids and fiber - good luck

I have leaned toward diarrhea since surgery and my doc told me not to complain and consider myself lucky as most people are constipated. This is a lot of info too so prepare yourself, if they are mucousy and are "floaters", it is because you are not absorbing and digesting the fat in your foods. You can add Benefiber to add some bulk as well. Good luck, I feel your pain, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC
