Question:
bcbsnc deductible
Hi guys I have just started the process for the lap band. I contacted my insurance company and they said that bariatric surgery is covered with per-approval in my plan. Then she told me that I would have to pay a $2,500 dollar deductible. I'm wondering if I have to pay this up front or if it will be billed to me? If anyone has the same ins. or ran across this issue please answer my question. Thanks — oneprincess2 (posted on May 8, 2008)

Anything that has the word deductible has to be paid up front. It sucks I

Give some of the money down and ask if you can pay in payment's it will
work out.

When I went in for the consultation at my surgeon's office, I spoke with
the financial counselor first and she said the deductible will be billed to
me and it doesn't have to be paid up front.

I have BCBCNC and a couple of years ago when I had my Lapband surgery I got
denied at first because it didnt actually cover it...only gastric bypass.
My doc appealed and finally got it approved for me. I have a $500
deductable and I did not have to pay any up front money other than some
classes I had to go to on nutrition. I still have no problem using my
insurance for fills and so fourth. Good Luck. Where in NC do you live? I
used Dr. Miles out of Wilmington for my surgery, great doctor!

Yes, I think you will need to pay up front. If you surgery is surgery
scheduled out a few months try to pay smaller payments till the actual date
with them.

Deductibles generally must be paid up front with most hospitals. You can
ask to speak with a supervisor and try to negotiate that and sometimes it
really works. They are a business and often willing to negotiate if you
push through to the right person.
The doctor's office is sometimes alot more gracious when it comes to a
payment plan.
Stand your ground with the hospital business office and ask for the boss,
the desk clerks are just a step on the bottom of the ladder. Go straight
to the top and present your case. LOL, tears help! Good luck!
