Question:
Is RNY open ever performed with a HORIZONTAL INCISION at the waist line?

I was going for a Lap procedure due to the scaring, recovery etc. but recently found out insurance will not cover Lap. Has to be open, but have heard of "U or V" and vertical incisions. Any horizontal waist line?    — ERICK B. (posted on May 8, 2002)

Erick...I had my Open RNY on 03-07-02. My doctor does a horizontal incision. He says that they heal faster and have less pain associated with them, and I have to agree. I have a very thin, very straight, seven inch incision that is healing very well. If you would like a pic to get a better idea, feel free to email me! Good Luck!
