Question:
Stricture at 18 days post-op?
I am 18 days postop... been doing GREAT so far, with no complaints until today. I moved up to stage 3 (pureed foods) on Tuesday of this week, experimenting with pinto bean puree. It went down good, so I have had it a few times. But today when I tried to eat a little bit of it, after just a few bites I started feeling like it was backing up in my pouch and I got really nauseated. I ran for the Phenergan gel, rubbed it into my wrists, and prepared for the worst. After about an hour, the feeling subsided. TWO hours after the first episode I thought I would give it another try. BAD idea. The same thing happened, and this time I ended up vomiting just a small amount of foamy liquid. (I was surprised that it didn't hurt at all!) About three hours after that episode, I was able to drink a protein shake with no problems. To be honest, I am a little scared to eat/drink anything... that feeling was terrible, to be so nauseated. I have heard that strictures are fairly common, and easy to treat. From what I have read on the message boards, this sounds like a stricture. OF COURSE I would come to this realization on a Friday night, when there is no one at the surgeon's office! I really don't feel like this is an emergency situation, so I am planning on just monitoring how I feel, and if it is worse tomorrow then I will call the surgeon's office and see if I can get a doc-on-call to call me back about it. Any advice? Thanks in advance! :) — girlonamission (posted on March 26, 2010)

Certainly get in contact your Doctor. But sonsider that you might have
eaten the beans a bit to dry or ate a bit to much or even to fast. Happened
to me. Don't worry so much. Did you try to eat cottage cheese or sweet
potato yet? That worked for me really easily. If you can get that down then
it is not a stricture you just might not be ready for beans that is all. I
found that my food tasts and tollerances have really changed. I am 6 weeks
out (RNY) Good luck.
