Question:
Weight loss bouncing around - weird or not??
My weight is bouncing back and forth, between 144 and 146, 147. Literally. Today it is 145. Yesterday it was 144. Day before it was 146. A few days bwefore it was 144, then 145. One day, I exercised 7.5 miles at the rec center, between walking/jogging, elliptical and biking. Didn't lose a thing. Then I lost a few pounds back to 144 two days later. Then back up and then down. Is this normal? I watch what I eat and I exercise fairly regularly. Seven months ago, I had the RYN gastric bypass. Is my body just not ready to lose the weight at this moment? My weight loss has slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY. But I am still working on it. — C P. (posted on October 2, 2008)

I'm three years out and I bounce around 2-3 lbs one day I can be 142 the
next day 144 and I know I didn't gain 2lbs over night so I figure it could
only be water weight because it will be gone the next day,

Your profile is private, so we have no background data on you to work with
for comments. We don't know when you had surgery, how big you were when you
started, etc. DAVE

Dave,
I locked it up recently when a former guy friend saw my posting and got a
BIG kick out of it (he remembered me when I was a skinny minny a LONG time
ago). In fact, he got such a big kick out of it, he told my sister who I
don't get along with, my boss, my friends from college who never knew I had
gained so much weight, etc. I nowe have to deal with these people laughing
at me (he contacted the ones who I didn't get along with). Never the less,
you can summize that we aren't friends anymore. It is easy for someone to
tell me not to wory about other people, but it is another thing to have
those that I don't care for know my personal business.
So that is why I locked it up.

My weight bounces around from day to day too. I think it's alot to do with
salty food and retaining water...I do not eat the same things daily
either... I try not to weigh but once a week. I keep track of more than 3
lbs. If I gain more than 3, I know I am gaining weight or need to drink
much more water so I stop retaining it in my body! (I need to do that
now...not getting my water in daily lately) You are probably at the point
where you need to watch your intake much closer now and do not begin to eat
more and more but maintain and even cut back to lose the rest that you
might want to lose. Just be careful now and pay attention to your
pouch...This is probably about where your body is happy...but you still
have that nice easy honeymoon period...so take advantage of it now while it
is still easy and just cut back on some cals or fat or carbs or all three!
And drink more water!

The human body does not consistently hold to a exact weight-- think about
the net effect of everything you eat and drink and excrete. Plus, most
bathroom scales will vary within a few pounds. These variances are why
most programs don't have patients weighing themselves every day.

It is not uncommon for a womean to bounced around in weight. Those numbers
can bounce up to 10 pounds depending on water weight. I too am stuck at
144. I am 17 months out of RYN and have not been losing. I made it within
13 pounds of my goal weight and I am ok with that. Sometimes your body just
knows when to stop.

Why didn't you opt for DS surgery? It would solve a lot of problems.

It's normal and it will make you crazy. Pick a day once a week or twice a
month and weigh yourself... you'll see actual weight loss/gain and not the
day to day fluctuations due to hydration status.
