Question:
Easter meal ????
Wondering what every one is making for Easter meal.I will be in my 7th week post RNY and able to eat ham.YEA! I was wondering if scalloped potatoes done in a lighter way would be allowed since I am able to eat cheese and mashed potatoes. Asparagus and baby carrots are a family favorite, so since I eat that regularly that I know would be fine to eat. I was thinking of making lemon meringue pie from scratch so that I could use Splenda. That way I could have a tiny fork of the lemon filling at the end of the meal if I still have room. One other quick question... Would I be able to eat a pitted olive or part of on for just a taste?? Any Ideas??? What are you having for your Easter meal and how many weeks/months/years are you after surgery? Happy to be given a second chance at life, Pam — OntarioSilk (posted on March 28, 2010)

I am 3 months out and losing plenty so I will be having some ham and
veggies and maybe mashed potatoe salad. No sweets for me I just never want
them any more. However, the question about eating olives I do and teh
doctor said that was fine but to remember the salt in them and not eat more
than 2 or 3 at a time and not to do it every day. So I would say it should
be fine for Easter to have 1 or 2. Enjoy.

This is a new lifestyle, not a diet. So--you should never be deprived
anymore. If you are following your eating plan, and the rules, you should
be able to eat anything in appropriate quanities.
Eat your meat first, for every 5 bites of protein, stick in a bite of a
veggie you want to try (potatoes, asparagus, carrots).
Do measure out your protein so that you know you get enough of that in,
then when all is said and done, if you still have room to taste that
meringue filling, allow yourself to taste it. Try not to overdo, because
you don't want to dump in the middle of your easter.
I know several people that crave olives and eat some everyday in my support
group. They switched from wanting sweets to wanting salty. Just make sure
(especially with the ham) that you chew chew chew... Don't want to get
stuck and uncomfortable.

You've got a GREAT plan for yur Easter meal! Enjoy! My only
suggestion...Put all the food on your plate that you know you can
eat...Don't eat buffet style and DON'T GRAZE!!! After your meal don't
nibble with company! Wait at least 3 hours to try that lemon pie if you
are too full...It will hurt otherwise!

One thing that I like to make for holiday meals is devilled eggs. They are
tasty, a good source of protein and have a bit of a zing to them if you put
mustard along with the mayo in the egg yolks for the filling.

Just read your question about the Easter meal. You mentioned having lemon
meringue pie. Well if you go to www.splenda.com and click on deserts they
have a recipe for Lofty Lemon Meringue Pie and it is wonderful. The splenda
website has a lot of wonderful recipes. make sure you check it out. Hope
this helps. I'm 4 weeks post op with a gastric sleeve. So far I've lost
27.4lbs.
