Hey there, congratulations on your journey and welcome to the loser's
bench. A lot of being able to feel my port goes along with how much
abdominal fat I have. I began this journey with a BMI of 71, so initially,
it was a challenge to be felt and/or accessed even by my surgeon. The
thinner I got, the easier I can feel it. It is surgically sewn (sutured)
to the rectus abdominus muscle I believe, so your port should absolutely
not be free floating. Surgeons also are different where they attach the
port. I've seen some very close up to the rib cage, some have been lower
on the left or right side of the abdomen. Probably wouldn't hurt to give
your Atlanta fill center a quick call and ask about it though. I've never
heard of it happening- guess anything is possible. Try laying down on your
back on an ottoman or something to where you can lift your legs out
straight and put your hands above your head- kind of like forcing your ab
muscles to tighten or crunch. Take a deep breath in and hold it and use
one of your hands to see if you can feel your port then or have someone
else try. This is how my surgeon has to feel my port to access it. When
all else fails, there is always the ultrasound machine. I wish the very
best of luck to you.
