Question:
I am in desperate need of healthy recipes.

I need 56 protein, 9 grams fat at most per meal, 2 grams or less of sugar, and I am having a heck of a time finding recipes for any time of day. I need most help for dinners. I am on full foods..no restriction, waiting for my fill, and am just desperate for recipes so I can stay on track. If you have a meal, whole day, whole week, whatever help you can give me I'd appreciate it.    — shawnawrites (posted on April 16, 2008)

I have collected a ton of recipes from various sites. www.bariatriceating.com www.lowcarbcooking.org www.recipezaar.com www.thedailyplate.com ----this one also has the option of tracking everything you eat for calories and nutrition. I also think this site (OH) has a recipe archive, although I've never used it. Good luck!

Chicken Fajitas-put 4 boneless and skinless chicken breasts in a crock pot, sprinkle an envelope of taco seasoning on top to these. Top with a can of refried beans and top that with a bottle of salsa. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. When done take 2 forks and shred the chicken breasts and combine ingrediants together. Top with cheese if desired and heat a bit longer in the crock pot. My husband eats these with taco shells and I eat it on a plate with veggies. This is good protein and everyone who has tried them loves them. Even the kids. They don't know that it is healthy. Good luck.

Congrats on the 20 pounds! One of the things that helps fill me up and keep me satisfied is homemade chili with lots of meat and beans. Lots of protein there. Just a couple of things in addition to the recipe suggestions. Make sure you're drinking your 64 oz. of water a day. That can really help. Also, be careful of the soups. They can be loaded with sodium and also work much the same as drinking with your meal, flushing the food out of your pouch. Good luck.

Shawna, you must check out an OH helper who has had WLS and is the most amazing cook! She takes recipes and foods that she used to eat before surgery and has turned them to WLS friendly high protein foods! I have tried MANY of her recipes and have gotten some awesome ideas from her. I read her blog at least once a week, because on top of great recipes, she is soooooo funny, and gives product reviews too...She is sugar/carb-phobic and that's what really matters... Check her out! I just adore this woman and have not tried a recipe of hers that I didn't just love! Some of her recipes are elaborate and some just as easy as can be! She has TONS of archives to look thru. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ As my own personal advice...fish of any kind is usually very low fat, high protein! If you do not like fishy fish, I recommend a nice moist white fish called orange roughy. I get it frozen and thaw, toss in the oven with a little butter and salt and crushed peppercorn, top with a TSPN of mango salsa! YUM! Tilapia is good too...Boiled shrimp...Tuna... I make chili or tacos or mock fajitas with ground turkey (is higher in Iron than chicken) Can freeze left overs! Textured vegetable protein or (TVP) is a great alternative to ground meat (Very high protein, low fat)...It is freeze dried soy and veggies...You hydrate with stock or boullion and water and mix into any soups or stews or recipes calling for ground meats...And because it is crunchy and practically flavorless, you can use it as a topping for cereals, oatmeals, icecream, puddings, baked apples...It's the crunchy pieces you find in protein bars. Good luck!

I was told I must get in 60 grams of protein a day, not a meal. This is hard when you can only eat 1-2 cups of food and meal. I do a protein shake when I feel I don't get enough protein. I can get 24 grams of protein in one 8 oz. drink. Best of luck! JN
