Question:
my sister does not qualify for surgery
she is 42 and weighs 375 pounds she is diabetic and has bed sores she went into a comma 2 yrs ago and when she woke was blind in 1 eye and had losed the use of her legs she is not allowed out of bed due to the bed sores and is very depressed. she is in a nursing home and is not getting any better we need to find a rehab facility in our area, we live in NJ, that she could go to. we at least need her to be able to transfer from a wheelchair and we could do the rest any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We looked into Mcgee in Pa but they would not accept her and also brookhaven in NY, because she was from out of state — osoriolisa (posted on February 20, 2008)

The only reason I can think of as to why they would not perform any Weight
Loss Surgery on her is because she is too high of a risk to put to sleep.
Some surgeons will do it anyway and it will also depend on her insurance
and if they cover it. Since she is in such an acute state right now they
may do it, but they will more than likely want her to lose some weight
before surgery, they all usually do.I weight 251lbs. and am 5'5''. What
seems odd is that she has all of the comorbidities needed to get it done,
but only certain surgeons will do high risk patients like her-it will just
be a matter of finding out who would do her surgery. I live in Dallas TX
and at UT Southwestern they do some risky ones. If you need a phone number
for them just let me know. Best wishes to you and your sister. I know I
would do anything to help mine too.
