Question:
Hernia/Endometreosis
My doctor that has suggested that I look into WLS is aware that I have a umbilcal hernia as well as endometreosis. But I am not feeling to confortable about that. He says that I'm a poor canidate for the surgery to repair the hernia but if I had to have any sugery it would be to lose weight. If you were his patient would you feel right about his opinion? I'm so confused I need help. Please anyone who has a hernia especially endo. please feel free to leave me a message thanks for those who respond. — Lovemyself (posted on December 16, 2007)

I just had hernia surgery last week. I had gastric bypass in July of 07 and
the henia is due to that. I went in the hospital with severe abdominal pain
I guess my old stomach had backed up and shouldn't be. I was told they were
admitting me and the dr would see me in the morning. At 10 am he came and
said they were going to do exploritory surgery at noon. When I was done
they told me it was a hernia which they did repair. I am not sure if it was
a umbilical hernia, the cut stoped at my belly button. Why dont you just
get a second opinion from another dr. If your not comfortable that is what
you should do. Hope it helped somewhat.

I had an umbilical hernia for many years before I decided to have rny
gastric bypass. My surgeon said he wanted to wait to do the repairif we
could. I agreed. After I woke from surgery, I was told that my hernia was
also repaired. My hernia was the size of a cantaloupe and needed immediate
attention. That was ok with me, 2 surgeries in 1. Before surgery the
hernia was buldging out of my belly button and now I have a nice little
inny. A regular hernia repair, being overweight, is rarely a permanent
repair. We initially were going to wait until I lost weight from the
bypass surgery, but my body had a change of plans. As far as
endometriosis, I cannot comment. I hope I have helped in some way. A
second opinion would hurt.
