Question:
was wondering, if POST OP, anybody drinks coffee?
I am very curious, if post op, it is possible to drink coffee? Is there a limit to how much liquid ( non caloric) can be had at one time? Does it make you sick? I am not a soda drinker, but, I do like crystal light. Thank you. — jzd612 (posted on November 4, 2006)

there is no limit on how much liquids you can drink. but sip, don't gulp.
drinking too fast will make you sick.

I love coffee, but now drink decaf. I found that caffeine gives me the
jitters, really bad, and I get dehydrated from it. I think decaf tastes
the same too so you aren't losing much there.

I drink regular coffee on a daily basis, I am almost 3 months post op and
have lost 59 pounds. You can't gulp it and I only get about 1 cup in the
morning. It takes awhile to drink so it gets cold fast. But I work at
starbucks and LOVE coffee. If I do drink Starbucks I only get nonfat with
either sugar free Vanilla or one third the syrup of the iced White mochas.
But sugar doesn't make me sick so whether you can have that will not be
known til after surgery. I also drink alot of iced tea but caffeine doesnt
seem to affect me at all.

Decaf coffee is highly recommended as well as if you want soda -- decaf
diet free sodas. Crystal light is cool

Hi, I drink regular coffe with 2% milk and I add one scoop of capucchinoe
nectar protein to it, this way I kill 2 birds with one stone. Get my
protein in and drink capucchino flavored coffe. Just don't add any splenda
because the capucchinoe protein will give you enough flavor and your coffe
will be sweet. This site sell the nectar protein. Just remmember your
coffe should be warm not hot when adding protein to it.

Usually, when people quip about coffee, I will remind them that coffee was
once thought to be the drink of the goods, that wars were fought over it
and that many struggling third-world economies rely upon our buying their
coffee exports. However, coffee is also a safe food for many of us. And,
contrary to lots of popular myths, the caffeine is not the strong diuretic
is was once thought (particularly among people who drank coffee- or other
beverages with caffeine- prior to surgery). For me, I drank full-blown
coffee after about 5 days following surgery. Of course, I started with
sips.

I'm almost 4 months post op and haven't had caffeine every since my surgeon
told me not two about 3 weeks prior to surgery...I was told that it's an
appetite stimulant AND that it takes iron away from absorption...something
we NEED!
Just like everything else, everyone's body reacts differently to foods and
beverages and the choice is ours as to what is best for us. Have you
discussed this with your surgeon or nutritionist? They could probably give
you the best advice since they know you and your situation best. Good Luck!

I started drinking decaf 6 weeks after surgery and now can drink 1-2 cups
of caffeinated coffee per day (I'm 3 months post-op). I would suggest
adding a little caffeinated coffee to your decaf gradually. This is what I
did - just to be safe. Everybody handles caffeine differently - so you'll
just have to see how your body reacts. Good luck!

Bah! Do I drink coffee? ROFL! I *roast my own coffee*!!! And I drink
lots of it. And I haven't had any regain 2.5 years out. I waited 4 weeks
after surgery and started drinking it again. Haven't had any problems. In
fact, I think I enjoy it more now than before!

Yeap, drinking my first cup right now as I type. You need to touch base
with your medical professional if s/he wants you to drink coffee and what
their guidelines are for doing so. I replace equal amounts of another non
caffeine liquid for my coffee.

I drink regular coffee every day with splenda and non dairy creamer, I have
been since I was 4 weeks post-op. I drink it slowly and I drink half a cup
and when it gets cold I dump it out and make a new cup and drink only half
so that it feels like I am drinking two cups a day but I only drink one. I
feel like it keeps me regular, If you know what I mean.
