Question:
HELP!!! Very disappointed!
Help! I'm 2 weeks out and have only lost 11lbs. I don't weigh myself everyday but for 4 days now I've been at a stand still, I even gained 1 lb. I've been exercising...1 mile walk 4 days this week and I've been drinking my protein. I just started dice protein. Any comments would help. I feel like it's a waste and I'm hoping thats not true. — Mugzy2k (posted on February 12, 2006)

Everyone starts at a different pace. My husbad and I had the surgery on
the same day. For the first month, he was way ahead of me with weightloss,
since then I has lost more (although I had more to lose). Don't let the
scale determine your success or failure. You are going to hit times when
you go up a few pounds. Make sure you are drinking lots of water and
taking your protein.
I questioned my decision every day for the first month, but now at 7
months, I know it was the best decision I could ever had made for myself.
Good Luck!

11lbs in 2 weeks is great. Think about it, when was the last time you lost
11lbs? and kept it off. As for the gaining, excersizing causes muscle
mass, muscle is denser than fat, therefore you can be losing fat but
gaining muscle so you might gain a little. but trust me the weight will
come off. Have a little patiences. Your body just went through hell, and
needs time to adjust. You're probably are still swollen, and you are
definately still healing. I find it amazing that you can walk 1 mile a day
for 4 days this soon out. Give yourself a break, sounds to me like you are
doing everything the way you should be. It is not a waste of time, you will
see. Good luck to you :-)

Hi. Congrats on your successful surgery! At 2 weeks out I was worried
that I went through the surgery for nothing because I wasn't losing
"fast". A lady from our support group lost 30 pounds in 10 days
post op. I know your not supposed to compare yourself to other but
sometimes it's natural to do that. But I have learned that we all lose
differently and at different times. If you are doing everything you are
supposed to, you will lose. Getting the adequate amount of water is very
important when you are losing weight. I weighed myself everyday early post
op, it is hard not to do that. Try to go a couple days in between weighing
yourself. Make sure you weigh yourself the same time and have the same
clothes on or weigh naked ( when I do weight myself, it's first thing in
the morning and I am naked!). Also around the time of my period, I would
stop losing or gain from water retention or whatever. I learned not to
weigh myself the week of my period- it was too depressing! On my profile,
I wrote when I gained a pound or so or thought that 'losing' would never
start back up. There were times that I felt like I would be the only
person not to reach goal. I think it has to do with the fact prior to
surgery all of us 'failed' at the diets or weight loss programs we tried.
But it did start back up everytime I thought it never would. I reached my
goal about 5 1/2 months post op- 120 pounds gone forever! You will keep
losing. Hang in there. Keep your faith up high and you will do wonderful.
WLS surgery works if you work it! Follow the rules and you will succeed.
Lots of smiles, Jenna

Calm down. lol
Just because you did not lose weight in 4 days means nothing.
More importantly you should be enjoying the fact that you lost 11 pounds in
2 weeks! That's great.

Hi - don't worry. 11 lbs is good. I weighed myself when I got home from
the hospital and had gained 5 lbs. I was told not to expect to lose
anything in the first 4-5 days which I didn't. All of a sudden I stepped
on the scale and had lost 6 lbs. Tomorrow makes 3 weeks and I have lost 26
lbs (gained one back). I don't exactly know how it works but I was told
it is normal to gain a lb or two or plateau even during this stage. I
probably was 11 to 13 lbs down on week two. Don't get discouraged. Lisa

Calm down, please do not fret; everyone's body chemistry is different and
we all loose at different levels. Also think about when the last time was
that you lost 11# in 2 weeks? Your body needs time to catch up with itself.
Your body is recovering from MAJOR surgery give it time it needs time to
heal itself. The big misconception with many people is that the pounds are
just going to MELT right off, not true. Sometimes it is going to seem like
they melt off effortlessly and then other times you will think that nothing
that you do seems to budge a single ounce. Take advantage of your
"honeymoon" period of time (for most the first 18 months) and
learn a new lifestyle of living so it will be with you the rest of your
life. Welcome to the "otherside" of loosing.

Relax and be patient..It WILL happen and you'll be very happy. Believe me,
with what you're eating you have to loose weight. Sometimes the body holds
on to fat for it's dear life, but after a while it gives up.. 11lbs in 2
weeks is great. I'm 2 and a half years out and have lost 130lbs and still
loosing. I try not to stree about the weight loss because we all know what
we WANT to do when we're stressed. GOOD LUCK SWEETIE!

I was informed that just because the scale isn't moving down doesn't mean
you are not losing inches. Hope that helps..take care

I know your feeling, I too struggled at first but I had someone who had the
surgery explain that we all loose at different rates and there would be
times when I would plateau and only loose inches (which was not what I
wanted to hear) but since I gave myself a good talking about gaining weight
over the last 22 years, I needed to have some patience in allowing it to
come off. I reminded myself to follow dr. recommendations and keep the
faith. Now almost one year out and down 103lbs. It was the best advice I
ever had so far. So keep the faith, this phase will to pass. kea

Someone else in my support group told me this and it seems to be true. In
both of our cases, we missed our period. She told me that once hers came
she started really losing. I just got mine 2 days ago and have dropped 3
pounds.
Remember, the weight didn't come on overnight. It's not going to leave
overnight.
