Question:
How to get started with Ala. Medicaid

I have no insurance, I am unemployed, and I am wanting to get on Medicaid. I called the DHR office and they told me I did not qualify.. All she asked me was my ss#.. To me that was stupid. I have alot of medical problems. I am also morbidly obese. 5'4 340 lbs. Any information anyone could give me about how to go about getting Medicaid would be greatly appreciated.    — April P. medicaid is based on income...i have no idea how your ss# can tell them you dont qualify. you arent working...can you qualify for disability...if you get disability after 24 months, they will give you medicare. if you have no income, you qualify for medicaid...even people who own homes can qualify for medicaid. i would call again, and this time get a specific reason for not qualifying.
