How to get started with Ala. Medicaid

I have no insurance, I am unemployed, and I am wanting to get on Medicaid. I called the DHR office and they told me I did not qualify.. All she asked me was my ss#.. To me that was stupid. I have alot of medical problems. I am also morbidly obese. 5'4 340 lbs. Any information anyone could give me about how to go about getting Medicaid would be greatly appreciated.
