Question:
Has anyone experienced throwing up blood?

I had gastric surgery 5/12/9 about 11 wks ago. In the last 3 weeks or so I have been occasionally throwing up blood with items I need to purge. I have been eating slowly & I believe I am chewing throughly. Still I having and have had problem with textured, dense, heavy food since I was able to have them. Staples have been yogurt and cheese sticks. Occasionally I can do thin chicken tenders and ground beef in chili and a few other things however not consistantly. I didn't want to call the doctor they may want me to come in & my co-pays are high. Please help. thanks    — angelam43 (posted on July 27, 2009)

I haven't had surgery yet but it sounds like you could have something serious going on. I would definately call my doctor's office and get some advise over the phone with out a co-pay but if you need to be seen, it is worth the $ to stay healthy which is the main goal of all this. Good luck!

I haven't had surgery but it's not about the co-pay it's about your life. Call your doctor as soon as you can. PLEASE

My doctor told me that I probably have a small tear my pouch from throwing up. If it is bright red, it is fresh blood. If it is brown then it is old and you have a problem. If it continues contact your doctor and see if he can do a phone consultion. Just chew your food very well and don't try to rush meats and eat slow. More to come later.

I agree with Kristy, from what I have been told, blood from the throat or from the esophagus is normally bright red. Blood from the stomach is brown and has an appearance of coffee grounds. I would advise your doctor.

Anytime you are throwing up something isn't quite right and if there's blood involved I would definitely be in touch with the doctor. An office co-pay is usually alot less than an emergency room co-pay.

Get in to see your doctor NOW! Throwing up blood is not a good thing in anyone, much less someone who's had gastric surgery. Co-pay or not you must go. Hope things get better for you. :)

Sounds serious. I haven't had my surgery yet but have been doing a lot of research. One patient was vomiting blood and almost lost her life. Sounds like a tear somewhere. Your life is worth much more than a co-pay!

Go to an emergency room. This could be serious.
