Question:
Where can I get affordable B-12 Injections to give to myself

I use to get the Hight B injections from my pcp before I moved accross the state at about $100 a shot once a month. I now have a job that could never afford that and my weight is 200 plus and climbing, so I really need to find out where and how to get the injections at an affordable price and how to give them to my self or my guy to give them to me. I would love any help on this. I also did find on a vetrinarian site a vial of B-multi @ 250 ml for $9.50 plus $10.00 shipping, and does that mean I could get 8 30 ml shots out of it?? Would love some help with this please!! Ruth    — rkahler (posted on July 22, 2009)

Well Ruth, I get my B-12 injections with Liposone from a wt loss center called scale solutions. You can have them give you the injections for about 15.00 apiece but you can buy a vial for 175.00 with 30 15 injections. As a nurse I will tll you that you can not inject yourself with 30 ml's of anything. The most a person can inject is 5ml at a time but the usual amount is 3ml. The wt loss center has 2ml injections a piece. Buying B12 from a vet must mean giving 30ml at a time to a horse!!! So the place is called scale solutions and I live in Ga but I think they have these across the country. For a PCP to charge 100.00 a month for a b-12 shot is highway robbery. Your PCP may be able to give you a perscription that you can get filled for about 30.00 a vial and you probably can get 10 shots out of it. I

Sorry was not finished. When I used to do home health I gave a lot of b-12 injections to patients that got the perscriptions from their doctors. I hope this helps, but please don't give yourself something from a vet over the internet that you know nothing about. Good Luck!!

Sallie would it have been (30 mg the strength??) the doc gave me versus the 30 ml (the ??? amount) I see others that also say they take 30 ml at a time that last a month? and one of the forums actually had a member that said they got it from a vet supply Ruth

Sallie 5ml would last how long before the next injection, because my shots were once a month, and like I said maybe they were 30 mg (the strength?) and the ml means what the amount? or strength? Ruth

Ruth, First of all, are you comfortable giving yourself injections? If so, you can get your primary care Dr. to write a script for the 1 ml vials that can be refilled monthly. I take 1 ml intramuscularly every 30 days. It costs me about $4.00 per month. Don't forget to ask your Dr. for a script for the needles too, the pharmacy will not dispense them without a prescription. Also make sure that the pharmacist is aware that these are for IM injections and gives you the right syringes. You will need 25 gauge, 1 or 1 1/2 inch needles. You can get the 30 ml vials, which would be 30 monthly injections, but the problem with that is the B-12 usually expires before the 30 months is up. It does work out to be cheaper..... I checked it out and it would be $11.00 for the multi dose vial, but as I said, most of it would expire before I could use it. So I opted for the 1 ml vial monthly. Hope this helps, Trish,RN

Here's another R.N.'s thought......... my honey has been taking B-12 Sublingual Dots. (That's under the tongue) You can't swallow B-12 by mouth as then it won't work, but sublingual disolves in your mouth, is then absorbed through the skin. If I were everyone of you, I would ask my physicians if this could be a possibilty for you. Might be a reason YOU have to have injections, but I would still ask as your Dr. is the best source for what works for you. B-12 Sublingual Dots can be found in the Pharmacy at Walmart for about $4.

I too use the sublingual B-12, and when my bloodwork was done my levels were actually higher than they needed to be. I'd much rather avoid the shots and this is an easy way to do it. See what your Dr. says, mine actually recommended these over the shots. Good luck!

Hi Ruth, thanks a lot for asking this question because i can see I have been paying an awful lot for my injections but they are a cocktail of vit b-12 choline for liver health, methione, amino acids to prevent fat buildup in liver and body and inositil that helps reduce cholestrol and builds metabolism. This is what I get from the weight loss doctors at scale solutions. I take the injections bi-weekly. I will only do this for another month or so, then I will also just take the 1ml injection monthly. Then I am going to get the 4.00 injections from my PCP. The vial I buy has 15 2 ml (cc) injections. It is 2 cc because of the "cocktail, but just plain B-12 you take 1cc. So again, thanks for asking this question because a lot of us learned something!!
