Question:
I had my EGD and now my Dr.
has put me on OMEPRAZOLE because he found 3 ulcers and my surgery is scheduled for July 29th. He wouldn't explain what could happen if they are not gone cause he said I was to "out of it" and I wouldn't remember. Has anyone had this happen so close to a surgery date and what did your dr. do? Oh he also told me to cut out all spicy, caffeinated, and acidic foods. Which I have. PS I am having the RNY. — bridgadean (posted on July 5, 2008)

Omeprazole (Prilosec which you can by over the counter) is in a class of
drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI) that block the production of acid
by the stomach. Other drugs in the class include lansoprazole (Prevacid),
rabeprazole (Aciphex), pantoprazole (Protonix), and esomeprazole (Nexium).
Proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of conditions such as
ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the Zollinger-Ellison
Syndrome, which are all caused by stomach acid. Omeprazole, like other
proton-pump inhibitors, blocks the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that
produces acid. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased,
and this allows the stomach and esophagus to heal. Zegerid contains
omeprazole and an antacid (sodium bicarbonate).
With RNY he will be moving you stomach off line so to speak, where it just
feeds acid to the last third of your small intestine, but they want the
stomach to be in good condition. There is nothing to worry about, just eat
right and keep on track for your surgery date. Best of Success to you.

OMG, I was told that I had ulcers, but I was also told about Ultimate Aloe
from Market America. "It will heal you from your esophagus to your
rectum" that was what I was told and it worked. I very rarely have
stomach upsets. I even started using their isotonix products, and became a
distributor soon after. It has changed my life.
