Question:
About Self Pay
i am in Portland Oregon and am having to pay for this myself. has anyone else been a self pay and i was wondering if they have you pay the whole amount up front or send you a bill. i was told here tat it would be around 33,000 and im going to be having it done at Good Samaritan hosptal. i am currently on month 4 of doing the food log/monthly weigh ins and have currently lost 30lbs and even though i dont have a date set yet i was told to look forward to it to being in january. i have been going though the obesity institute at the same hospital. Thank you for any info. — muhkree (posted on October 23, 2007)

I had surgery 2 years ago and had to pay upfront the entire amount, which
was apporximately 27,000. Since I paid upfront I was given a percentage
off, so ask about a discount if needed. Good luck with your future

I had my surgery done in Toronto, Canada. I paid $ 18,000 for everything.
The Dr. was Chris Cobourn, 905-278-7077 or fax 905-275-1582.
www.obesitysurgery.ca I'm on the east coast so with airfare, hotel, and
taxi cabs I was about $20,000 in total. DebbieNB

I had my RNY on Aug. 6, 07, in Dallas Tx. by the very best (IMHO), Dr. Wade
Barker. I paid up front $24,500. I agree with the previous poster that
you can bargain if you pay cash (cashier's cheque). This included all
hospital care (I had to stay four days becaue of complications) for which
there was not extra charge. Good luck!

You may want to look into other places price wise. I know a few
individuals that had surgery here in Arizona and paid $13,000-$17,000. I
know my surgeon is one of the cheaper surgeons. He did a fantastic job, in
fact my Mom and a few acquantances I know have had surgery through him as
well. Good luck.

$33K??? That's a lot of money! Here in Dallas, Texas, the prices are
advertised from $11,500 to $15,600. One of the best surgeons in Dallas is
at Presbyterian Hospital and he is the one of the lowest priced. With that
comes the night before and the night after in the hospital, plus fills,
weekly to monthly meetings and so forth. Some of the higher priced ones
that haven't done the surgery as long, send you home after you come out of
recovery! You need to check around.

I had my surgery 2 wks ago. I had to pay up front. It was $5k for the
physician, 15K for the hospital, and $1275 for the anesthesia. I wish they
would bill ya. No such luck on my end of town though.

I guess all of you were lucky I got mine done in 1999 and it was 53,000.00.
Yes you have to pay up front. There was a hospital that use to let you pay
30% down but they got taken, so they stopped that and now have to pay 100%
up front.

I had lab and surgery 6/18/07 at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. It was
$15,00 - $5K for doc and $10 K for hospital. If you had gastric or RNY
then it would have been $21K total. $33K sounds out of line with what I
have heard about.

I am having the Vertical Sleeve Gastrctomy on Thursday. I paid 14,500 all
inclusive. My insurance paid for the pre-op procedures. I did pay $300
for the mandatory Psych Eval. My insurance would have paid for that also
but I was afraid the approval would take too long and I would have to bump
my surgery date so I paid. Just got approval yesterday but that would have
been to late. Do some research on the VSG. Pat

for my pre-op lab. Travel expenses added more $$ (gas, hotel ect).
