Question:
Anyone on BCBSNC Blue Care insurance? How hard to get approved? At min. qualif...
I am going through the process, all the pre-consult appts. I BCBSNC and have heard that it is fairly easy to get approved through them. I am wanting to have the RNY and am 5'4" and 225 lb. (BM 38.5) I have other health complications, B/P and Sleep Apnea with lots of other health problems in my family that i am at risk of. My mom had this surgery 2+ years ago and was approved through her disability. There have been people who say i don't need the surgery, because they say i don't weigh enough. I, however am miserable and am tired of fighting a losing battle. I know of others who weighed less and had it done. Anyone else had similar situation and was approved through same insurance? — slynn33 (posted on June 13, 2007)

First of all, don't tell anyone else of your intention to have wls. It's a
personal decision and no one walks in your shoes or suffers your health
problems. You are considered a lightweight and most people think that only
grossly overweight people qualify for wls. Your answer to the doubting
davids at this point is to say that you do not want to compromise your
quality of life in 10 years. I fought a losing battle too and gained the
majority of my weight after having children and then developing diabetes
when I was 35. Just lean on your OH friends for support through this
process and stop talking to others!

I agree as well.I'm 5'5 230 lbs And have problems with boderline
diabetes,high cholesteral,I also take atenonol,
for blood pressure,I know I have First Health and my BMI
Is 38.3 they say a BMI of 35> with co-morbites or a BMI>
with out co-morbities can have the surgery It still is up
to the insurance in the long run, If they will approve it that
Is,I will go for a sleep study 06/21/07.I went to a nutritionist
06/13/07 my insurance required that as well, but I did find That to be
informative, I still need cardio-stress test and
Phys.eval.too and 6 mo. diet to chart down. Each insurance
co. has their own requirements. One person told me it's better
That way it gives you time to think things through. And adjust
To your new lifestyle.I say go for it now before you have major problems.
And consult with your Doc. and your weight loss surgeon as well,to see what
they think.I'm going for the
lapband.Anyway, Good Luck And keep us informed,
Sabrina

People who sya you "dont weight anough" are jealous. They are
trying to break your stride. You do qualify with 2+ comorbidiites and BMI
>35. If this si what you want go for it! People said things liek that to
me too.... "Oh, you don't llok like you need that " or whatever.
I had a BMI of 40.9 or something like that.... ignore these people and do
what is rihgt for you! As to qualifiying with certain insurances... it
depends on your individual policy some employers exclude it. Good luck!
