Question:
How to stop losing weight and maintain the weight I am now
I am 10 1/2 months out and I went from 256 to 141 but I am still losing and I want to know how to maintain my weight? My doctor said I should eat 2200 calories a day but that is very hard because I am still without an appetite. I probably eat 1000 (if I am lucky) a day. Any suggestions on what to eat? — jogadan (posted on November 17, 2006)

I have a couple of questions. How much & what have you been eating this
whole time? Have you been exercising on a regular basis since the surgery?
I ask b/c I don't feel like I'm gonna be down no 115 at 10 1/2 months. I've
met people that lost over 100 lbs in the first 4 months. I'm out about 3
1/2 months & only down 62 lbs!!

My response is for Denise, who responded to you...I'm 4months post-op and
have just lost the 100lbs!!! But, I'm counting from the time my surgeon put
me on a liquid diet prior to surgery by a couple of weeks...I had a gastric
bypass done and did everything my surgeon requested except get into a
regular exercise routine...I'm STILL working on that!:O(
I still have another 70lbs. to go. I have at least two protein shakes a
day, my vitamins, and eat museli with yogurt for breakfast, soup for lunch,
a small dinner of protein and veggies, and peanuts or peanut butter and
fresh fruit for snacks. My body seems to plateau for 3 weeks at a time and
then suddenly drops 11lbs.! Why 11 lbs. at once, I have no idea...
I don't think the speed of our weight loss is as important as the
consistency...Keep up the good work!
Now to respond to the person that posted the "question"...I would
think all you would have to do is add carbs and you'll be able to find the
balance for where you want to stay! Can you check with a nutritionist on
this? My surgeon includes this person as part of our package deal. Oh, how
I would LOVE to be 141 again! Keep Enjoying and congratulations! T.Trish

I very much so get my protien in every day, I have a slice of toast with
sugarfree jelly, sometimes a peanut butter half sandwich or some left over
meat(protein) from the day before and a small salad with ham and cheese.
Dinner usually includes some sort of protein and veggie. Then I have fruit
for a snack. I am very active at my job I do alot of walking and lifting of
20 to 30 pound boxes. Thank you to all who gave me some suggestions!

Beware, its usually best to let your body find its comfy weight! you need
to get in all your protein and a balanced diet, some carbs etc... but
unless advised directly by your surgeon to stop losing let your body
decide. Whats your current BMI? Going a little low is probably OK since
some regain is common.ing so fast you probably look bad I had friends ask
how is your chemo going:( but give your body time to adjust I looked much
better after another 6 months. I went from 313 to 194 in 6 months. bad
eating habits now to short circuit the loss cause regain later:(

just some input on your question..i am by no means a doctor or anything,
but me, myself..going into surgery, went in with the expectations to lose
weight...and with that consult, they advised how much weight i would
lose..i think at that point maybe you could have addressed that issue, i
don't know..maybe they could have done your surgery different, but who
knows. After thinking about it though, maybe you trying to counteract the
whole cause of the surgery and trying not to lose weight, maybe have an
adverse action..of maybe tricking your body and possibly gaining weight..I
think i would let the weight lose takes it action and once it stabilizes,
maybe address if you feel you have lost too much. I am 8months post op and
I have lost 112lbs..and i have ppl saying I am losing too much...I am
guilty of not eating like i should sometimes, but my body still does not
desire to eat, so sometimes i forget...But anywys maybe all in all you
should seek a nutritionalist.

i advise you to let the weight fall off as long as it will ... how much do
you weigh now? i got down to 98 lbs. but now im regaining ... im back to
100 but have been holding for awhile but that is no garentee that i will
not gain back even more so with that said I suggest to just lose till you
cant lose any more... then if you get down way to little the regain will
make up for the loss ... does this make since? good luck hun
