Question:
Changing careers 1 yr post op, Will cigna ppo cover my bloodwork?
My WLS surgeon requires bloodwork every three monthes, and a yearly visit at this point. I am pretty sure cigna will cover the visit since it's a little under a year away. My question is - will cigna PPO (thru Papa John's corporate) cover the bloodwork needed every 3 monthes??? Does any one know??? — HeidiMc (posted on June 24, 2006)

Cigna is one of the worst insurance companies. I would suggest you contact
them directly.

Yes, Cigna is the worst to get things done and too get the surgery but...
I did get the surgery and the doctor orders the blood work to monitor your
surgery and progress and yes it is covered. The costs in my area for the
required work up is $442.00 and I pay $27.00 with my Cigna plan.

I had my WLS almost 4 years ago without insurance, I was a self pay. I
just got married last August and was put on my husbands insurance, we have
Cigna open access. We do not need referrals or a primary doc. They have
covered everything with me,, blood work, test due to complications from my
WLS, and 2 surgeries this past Feb. due to complications from my WLS....
Ive never had any trouble with Cigna, I love this insurance company,, my
husband also just told me that it also has to do with the company that you
are employed with and the deals they strike up with the insurance company,
in this case Cigna,, we may have more because he's with a major huge
company, and they have a different deal with Cigna,,, each company is
different with the same insurance company,,, I understood it when he just
explained it to me,, I hope you can understand what he told me, LOL,,, good
luck to you. Amy

I do not have a answer for you. However, my suggestion would be that you
contact CIGNA directly for an accurate answer.

I have or had Cigna and they paid for my surgery and follow up visits and
labs. Now I have a new insurance co. and I am hoping they won't consider
this a pre-existing condition in August when I go back.

As long as you have insurance currently and change then you would not have
a pre-existing waiting period. I am going to assume your Dr is going to
code the bloodwork as routine so there would be no reason it would be
covered. Only way anything WLS related wouldnt be covered by your new
insurance is if they have an exclusion to cover/treat any WLS
treatments/procedures etc. Usually Drs can get around this by what
diagnosis they give you at the time of the check up :)
