Question:
Wellbutrin XL----Has anyone only taken 150mg.? 300 about sends me out of my skin.
Have to take Ambien CR to sleep. Tried other AD, but WAY too many bad side-effects. I was on 300 for 3 weeks and felt like I couldn't breathe. Dr. said to back it down to 150. Just was curious if anyone else had luck on that dosage. — mamajulie (posted on February 18, 2006)

Keeping in mind that every patient is different, I have been on the 150's
myself. I was also on Zoloft and Depakote at previous times. In comparing
the three, I definitely prefer Wellbutrin. I haven't been on Ambien before
but I have been on Lunesta (1 and 2 mg dosages). The smaller dosage of
Wellbutrin may in fact be exactly what you need. However, it may be the
medication itself instead of the dosage level. Keep an open mind in order
to be prepared to try another medication. Oftentimes, finding the right
medication for this issue is hit or miss, trial and error. I wish the best
of luck sweety in finding the right medication for yourself.

I was on that dosage for a year prior to the surgery but my surgeon told me
that extended release medicines don't work very well for bypass patients.
My regular doctor said she really didn't like the regular version of
Welbutrin. I was very happy with the dose pre-surgery but stopped
all-together for the surgery (2/10/06) and we are taking a wait and see
attitude.

I used to sell Wellbutrin XL...the biggest side effect is the
"jitteriness" and insomnia, but the key is to stay on your dose
of 300 mg for over a month. That side effect should go away. I'm on 450
mg...I would try to stay at that 300 mg dose if you can...just hang in
therre!

I never had side effects with the "XL".... but it is time release
and did'nt work for me post op. Now I'm on the regular Welbutrin.... and it
went down to 100mg too with the regular.

I am on the 300 dose, both before and after surgery. It seems to be okay
for me, but you have to find one that works for you.

I have been taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL for 2 years now. That dose seems
to word great for me. I call them my happy pills. I think if I upped the
dosage I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

XL does not work on WLS because of the time release factor. I have been
using Wellbutrin 150mg SR for years (including 2-1/2 years post op WLS).
Works great. The XL works for a few hours and then it's over.
