Question:
Appeal sent to Ins. company-has almost been 30 days-is this a good or bad sign?
I was denied by my insurance company (Aetna PPO) and an Appeal has been sent almost a month ago. I have not heard anything yet. I know they have 30 days to respond....... is this a good or bad sign that they haven't responded yet? I guess they are going to delay as long as possible? — pamela1 (posted on November 4, 2002)

Pamela,Have you checked with them to make sure they recd the appeal?
Usually the Ins Co get appeals and films them before they are set up to
review.Usually if they are considering a rej they may come back and ask for
additional info.I would call and ask them the status at any rate. If it got
lost, or if it hasnt been sent to the corr dept to review yet..this would
nudge them along. I think it could go either way..At least they didnt get
it and deny right off the bat ...Good Luck Nancy Poe

I don't think it's necessarily a good sign or a bad sign. But it's worth a
call to check and see if they have received all of the information they
need. Things DO get lost in the mail, many times once they make it to a
destination of a big company, they get lost in the shuffle to the correct
department. This happened to me. Just be courteous but assertive---be
sure to get the name of the person you talk with---I kept records of this
until I was approved and also kept all of the approval
paperwork/correspondence. They should not get upset for your calling to
check on the status of your case---if they do, politely ask to speak to
their supervisor. Good luck---it's tedious, but you'll hopefully get
there!
