Question:
Diabetic After Surgery?
I am 8 months out from bypass. I had diabeties only during pregnancy before surgery. The last few weeks i have been experiencing high sugars and feel sick after eating certain things. I am not talking candy or anything crazy things like crackers and cheese this morning for snack. Thinking I need to call nutrition but has anyone had something similiar? Always heard it went away with surgery if you had it. Does not make sense that I am getting it now? Thought? — elder1104 (posted on May 20, 2010)

have checked your blood sugar with your meter these eppisodes. And you
could possible having issues to milk products. You can become Lactose
intorarent at any time in the process, or begin suffering from dumping
syndrom too. Some peopel have that reaction to to many carbohydrate. you
should log what you are eating for a while and not which foods make you
feel badly. then check the ingreidents on the lable. Also watch for sugar
alchols in foods too. they can be sneakers that cause problems.

Don't fool around with diabetes. If you are testing your blood sugar levels
and they are high please call your doctor ASAP. I was taken off my diabetes
meds the day after my surgery.

I would definitely call your doctor or better yet, get a referral to an
endocrinologist. I have very hard to manage diabetes, very insulin
resistant. After the surgery, my blood sugar went down a bit but they were
still high. If they left me on my insulin, I wasn't going to lose any
weight. They decided to take me off the insulin unless they got really
high (over 200) in the hopes that as my weight dropped, so would they. It
worked... to a point. When I get sick, my blood sugar goes up. It doesn't
matter what I eat. I don't eat sweets... usually when I am sick, I can
barely get my protein down and I take a no sugar protein mixed with soy
milk...
Any rate... you could have something going on with your pancreas,
especially if you are feeling sick. Any pain in your upper left side? The
bottom line is that this is not normal. Something is going on, and I would
strongly suggest that you get it looked into ASAP.
