Question:
I am 7 months out rny and I've lost 74 lbs., is that about normal?
I had my surgery 2/12/08 and I've only lost 74 lbs. I still have to lose 50-55 lbs! Through out the summer my weight loss has slowed down tremondously! I only lost 15 lbs. from beginning of June to the end of August. Is this normal to be going thru this slow period? What can I do to get it moving again, I'm trying to excercise more. Any food tips for me? What should I eat more of? Please let me know what you think. Sherry — tnshargis (posted on September 10, 2008)

I had my surgery two days ago. I was told by my nutritionist that I will
hit plateaus in my weight loss. She said when I do, I could try several
things.
1. make sure my water intake is still between 40 to 60 ozs a day. 2. go on
protien shake for a week.
3. step up my activity/exercise; switch it up or ramp it up.
4. Consider eating less food.
You see, as we get smaller, our bodies require less calories to fuel it.
You either lower the calorie intake, or burn more of the fuel (calories)
more often.

Hi Sherry, you and I had surgery almost at the same time; I had mine
02/01/08. I have lost 84 pounds, so as you can see, we have lost very
similar amounts. I had my surgery 11 days before you, and that is why I
have lost a little more, because people lose weight faster right after
surgery - so the 11 days makes a difference. My point is; you're doing
GREAT and are right on schedule! I still need to lose about 65 more pounds
- and 65 pounds (or 50-55 for you) does not seem like so much now, when you
think about how far you've already come - I think we'll both lose the rest
of our weight just fine. Weight loss does tend to slow down as the year
passes, but you'll continue losing, albeit slower, for a total or one year
after surgery, or even as long as 1 1/2 years....
I personally try to stay away from carbs/starches/sugars and eat mainly
chicken, turkey, tuna, fish, eggs, beans, low-fat cheeses, vegetables. Best
wishes!
