Question:
HI, I m 11 mths out and lost over 130lbs already. Feel awesome . Therefore after
loosing all this weight I have started weight training since the beginning of this year and i have gained 7 lbs or so . I have measured my waist and neck inches its still the same from before. So does this mean i have gained muscle weight ? I don't feel I any fat tissues at all but still worried whether the little weight which i have gained is the fat weight (bad weight) or the muscle weight (good weight) ? Also, i think my chest and shoulders part have become a lil broader. I really feel its the muscle weight but still wanted some assurance from you all. Thanks alot in advance. — mrjack (posted on February 25, 2008)

Yes, it is mussle weight. I had the same thing happen but it scared me as
I gaind 10 lbs on the 2nd month after surgery. I was working out every day
for 1-1/2 hours a day 7 days a week because I could. I never have been able
to do much excersize until I lost some weight. You have done great but
don't worry about this as it is a good thing. Just keep making sure you
get the protein you need. Best of success with your weight training.

Jack, congrats! Not to worry... the weight you've gained is GREAT weight
in that muscle tissue is much more dense than fat tissue. The muscle also
is built under any fat tissue, so as you continue to loose fat tissue
you'll become more visually "cut" looking...as they say. The
gain should start to slow down. Don't forget to give your body time to
recoup from exercise, especially muscle/weight training exercise...as your
body needs to be able to rest and rebuild. Continued success to you,
Leslie

Jack, I am over 5 years post op and lifing is the only way I can gain
weight! If I'm not lifting, I fall to under 110 and I feel weak and look to
frail and thin. You are doing just the right thing and your body is
responding in a positive way! Keep in mind that the gained muscle will help
raise your resting metabolism and help you continue to loose fat. I caution
you to make sure you're getting enough calories to keep that engine
running! You're doing great! Keep going!
