Question:
Anyone have an infection pre-op and still had surgery??????

I have been sick going on 2 weeks I was put on Amoxicillin finished that and still sick so I went back and was told I have an infection in my throat and was put on Clindamycin this med has lots of side affects possibly affecting the intestines and can occur weeks after treatment. Is any familiar with this medication and should I be worried surgery is scheduled for 6/30 just started Clindamycin today 6/19 Help is it gonna be cancelled.    — jnmcneil (posted on June 19, 2003)

I am having surgery on 6/26 and just finished an antibiotic, Tequin, for an ear infection yesterday. I had the same infection in April and just to be safe when I started with the same symptoms, my Dr out me on the medication. My doctor know what I am taking and said that it was fine and she will give me clearance for surgery this Sat. The infection should be gone before surgery, comunicate with your doctor he/she should know how to handle this for you.

I was on antibiotics for a tooth infection right up until surgery time. I kept my surgeon informed and it was not a problem. Always be on the safe side... tell your surgeon everything in advance.... you do not want any surprises! Best of luck and hope you feel better!
