Question:
11 1/2 weeks out and can tolerate Chicken . Will eating it slow my weight loss?

I had RNY sugery on 7/22/09 and have done well with my eating. I have noticed that I can eat chicken without any problems. I chew very well and take small bites as I do with all my food. But Im not sure if post-ops should'nt eat chicken just because it does'nt agree with most of our pouches. Or if it will hurt our pouch. Its chicken breast, boiled with herbs. No fat added. Just wondering. Please help.    — tiawillb (posted on October 12, 2009)

Tia, I am only 4.5 months out and I could be completely wrong but I think chicken is a great source of protein and I have ate it since I was able to tolerate it (probably at 1 month or so) with no problem, it's what you put on the chicken that could spoil your diet!

Chicken is a great source of protein. I can eat it cooked certain ways, but not others. just depends on how it is cooked. i don't do breading or fried. Boiling it ao it is moist is great.

You are one of the lucky ones who tolerated it at that point. I am three mos out and just now beginning to be able to eat Chicken again. Great source of protein.

Everyone tolerates different things...I do chicken well, but had trouble beef and pork early on. I can do anything now. Eating should not interfer with loss as long as you are following the rules and not over eating. best of luck! hugs, kim

Like some of the other posters mentioned, chicken is a very good lean protein source. If you are able to tolerate it keep it in your diet. Any dietician will tell you that its one the best meat protein sources you can have. I am 9 months post op and I ate so much chicken in the beginning that I now kinda alternate between beef and chicken and sometimes pork. Some cuts of beef dont sit well with me but the for the most part i have not had any issues with either. I would keep it in your diet but be creative with it and eat it different ways to avoid getting bored with it.
